Portia de Rossi Says "Giddeyup"

October 27, 2006

pderossi.png I'd like to dislike Portia de Rossi just on principle, and here's why:

1. That hair. Omg, why can't mine look like that?
2. Those eyes. Omg, why can't mine look like that?
3. Perfect smile. Omg, you're starting to get it now, right?

She listed the following activities for iVilliage when questioned about her skinny-making physical fitness habits:

"I ride my horse. I do jumping and it works every muscle group you can imagine. Plus, it's cardiovascular, so I do that and I swim. I really look forward to getting on my horse, going riding and getting in the pool."

So, is she looking forward to swimming laps in her pool on her horse? I'm confused...

Ashtanga Yoga Has Another Follower in Judy Greer

jgreer.png Love Monkey's Judy Greer recently explained how she stays slim to iVillage:

"Ashtanga yoga. I really love it. I'm one of those hardcore yogis. I've done yoga for years, but this particular kind of yoga I just started a year ago. It's really hard."

Really hard might be an understatement. As I've come to learn, ashtanga yoga is about the sweatiest, most difficult concept of all forms of yoga out there and it sounds about as relaxing as a kick in the face.

Read on for more enlightening info...

Jane Leeves - But Where Will She Go?

October 26, 2006

jleeves.png Jane Leeves, the properly-accented actress forever typecasted as Daphne Crane, but recently of

Misconceptions
fame, recently told iVillage how she stays slim.

"I was a dancer, and I started very young. I don't do anything on a daily basis, but I try to do a little cardiovascular work every now and again. And I love Pilates because that's based on a dance framework."

It must work for her, whatever she does. She put on a bit of weight after her son was born in 2003, but in her picture to the left, she's back to being trim.

So, why isn't she still dancing, if she enjoyed it so much?

Jane Seymour is a Yoga Fan

jseymour.png While researching celebrity diets on iVillage, I discovered a blurb about Jane Seymour. Her excercise regimen, like many celebrities, includes Pilates and yoga - power yoga.

"Power yoga. But I had back surgery a number of years ago, so I have to be very careful what I do. So I usually do light weights, some isometrics and Pilates. Those are my favorites. I don't do anything that will throw my back out."

I must say, I hope she doesn't use Denise Austin's Power Yoga DVD. I'm sorry, but Denise Austin is so chirpy and cheerful as she bends and contorts impossibly that it makes me really want to smack her. I bought the DVD, but I had to quit using it because it gave me muscle aches and homocidal tendencies.

Sorry, back to Dr. Seymour: Yoga Woman...

Sarah Lancaster Has a Treadmill... and a Tanning Bed Apparently

October 23, 2006

slancaster.png In a fitness-related interview with iVilliage, What About Brian's Sarah Lancaster tells everyone how she stays in shape:

"Besides hiking, I do Pilates and work out with a trainer when I can. I had to buy a treadmill for the house because the hours that we were working were so crazy. If you're up at four, are you actually going to go to the gym? It's a little easier when the treadmill is there, looking at me."

Sounds like she has one of the same creepy, diet-enforcing treadmills that Linda Cardellini has. Maybe she borrowed it.

But seriously, maybe 4 AM works for some people. What is the best time of day to work out?

Natasha Hestridge "Hup two three four's" Her Way to Health

October 22, 2006

nhenstridge.png Commander In Cheif's Natasha Henstridge related to iVillage that her favorite workout involves dropping and giving a guy named Barry twenty.

"At the moment, I'm doing Barry's Boot Camp. Basically it's treadmill cardio for half an hour, then weight training, or you do the steps or elastics or all these different exercises. He changes it up all the time. I love to roller blade. And I went skiing a lot this winter."

Her first words kind of sum up the vast majority of celebritys' outlook on fitness. "At the moment." In other words, "I'm blindly participating in the latest trend, because everyone else thinks it's cool."

Picture thousands of scrawny celebs' jazzercising their way off a cliff like lemmings. If it's deemed "in," they'll probably do it.

Emily Deschanel Works Out and Stuff

October 21, 2006

edeschanel.png I've gotta say, Bones' actress Emily Deschanel is one of my favorite actresses out there. And, as you can tell by the picture to the left, she's got the fitness thing down to an art. She told iVillage recently that her workout routine consists of the following: "I work with a trainer right now; I do weights and stuff. I try and do it three times a week."

Good old-fashioned excercise. Now, if only she could learn to quit putting her eyeshadow on upside-down.

Eyeshadow aside, I totally agree with her realistic outlook on diet and fitness.

Emily also told iVilliage in a separate interview

"I say indulge and just don't feel guilty about it. If you indulge and you feel guilty, you'll say, 'Forget it, I've already gone off my diet.' Take a day, really enjoy it and eat what you want. If you allow yourself to do that, you won't go as crazy. One day is not going to kill you."

Linda Cardellini Wants to Eat Bonbons...

lcardellini.png But she doesn't, because her elliptical machine is in the way. At least that's what the ER actress told iVillage.

"I have an elliptical machine at my house between the kitchen and the couch. So I can't sit there and eat bonbons on the couch. I've got to get up and work out."

Given the celebrity penchant for workouts that enforce themselves, wouldn't it be neat if someone invented a machine that blocked your path to the kitchen everytime you had a craving for a bonbon?

Kind of like those automated robot vaccuums, the BonBon Blocker 3000 will zoom for the fridge and hover in front of it protectively everytime it hears your stomach growl. Get too close and it zaps you with it's handy-dandy, built-in cattle prod. Patent pending.

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon Likes Pilates - Good Enough for Me.

October 20, 2006

gbnilon.png 10.5: Apocalypse actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon expostulated on her love for Pilates in a recent interview with iVillage.

"For me, it's always Pilates. I go at least three times a week -- whenever I can fit it in, I do it. I love it. It's easy on the body."

I gotta tell you, if Pilates gave me sculped cheekbones, pouty lips and perfectly arched eyebrows, I'd sure do it three times a week too.

Allison Janney Ups the Barre on Her Workout

ajanney.png

As with the recently mentioned trapeze workout practiced by Alias' Mia Maestro, when I read in iVillage that Allison Janney, of West Wing fame, gets her kicks by doing Cardio Barre I was stumped.

Says Allison, "It's a very good workout without being hard on your knees. It's my New Year's resolution to go at least three times a week."

Upon further research, I found out that Cardio Barre's a nifty variation of ballet, mixed with a little weight lifting and aerobic movement. Kind of like Tai Chi meets the Nutcracker, I think. What new and clever workouts will they come up with next?
